“Jake, are we just going to leave her!?” Becky, who had been long dragged around the corner and into an entryway, wanted to kick Jake back out since he was not being a man!

“Desa said she would come, so she will. She told me to keep you two safe, and that is what I am doing. For now, rest in here and hope nothing comes.” Jake replied. He could not stop shaking. He had never seen a monster before. He couldn’t help but be scared. So when Desaray told him to go, he did not hesitate. He wanted to leave as fast as he could. Even if he was told to return, he did not dare to. He knew he was being a wuss, but he couldn’t help it. He was scared…

Becky had tears streaming down her now red cheeks from being both mad and anxious at the same time. She snorted and kicked Jake in the shin, causing him to cry out in pain and crouch on the ground before opening the door. But before leaving, she turned and looked back at Jake with disdain. “I am so glad, Desaray never accepted your feelings. As a boy who always chased after her, you don’t even have the balls to go back and try to help her. You do not deserve her and never will.”

Becky left the entryway, slamming the door behind her, leaving behind a dumbfounded Jake. He held his shin and looked at the door that was now closed, blocking all view of the outside world with a blank expression. He did not know what to say. He could not say anything. He was afraid for his life. He tried to act tough but now…. A hand gently tapped his shoulder. He turned to see Yu looking at him. “No matter what she said, you still took the two of us out of there, so I thank you since I could not have escaped on my own, but….”

Yu looked up at Jake with her big round eyes and continued: “Becky was right. You don’t deserve Desaray. She would have gone back for you if she was in your situation…. I am not trying to denounce you. I myself am too scared to leave this place as well, but I would have thought you would have gone back for her.”

Jake sat there staring blankly at Yu, unable to say a word. There was no argument to be made. If he truly liked Desaray, he could have gone back for her, but to him, his life was much more important, which is why he could only watch as Becky left.

On the outside, Becky had already made her way to the corner and stopped at the edge of the building. The streets were filled with abandoned cars. The sounds of people going about their daily business were replaced with the strange sounds of creatures she had never heard before.  These sounds sent shivers down her spine as if she was watching some kind of horror movie. The eerie silence that was only broken by the sounds was truly terrifying.

Becky gulped a mouth full of saliva as she finally worked up the courage to peek around the corner. When she did, her eyes almost dropped out of her head at the scene before her.

A few minutes earlier…

Desaray ran over to the scissors right as the goblin charged at her once more. She dodged the goblin that had dived right at her, quickly picked up the scissors, and spun her body around. This time she did not wait for the goblin to get up. Instead, she jumped forward and pinned the goblin to the ground, and stabbed the scissors in her hand into its neck over and over. Purple blood squirted into the air splattering on her face and school uniform, but even while covered in blood, Desaray continued stabbing the goblin until it finally stopped moving. Her arms had been scratched by the goblins claws and were now bleeding badly, but she did not care. She had killed the thing that had attacked them.

She gasped for air as her adrenaline slowly stabilized. She had exerted herself way past the point of anything she had done before. She looked down at her arms which were burning with pain and clenched her teeth. She slowly stood up as blood dripped from her arms.

Desaray had just gotten to her feet when a blue transparent window suddenly popped up in front of her, causing her to fall back on her but and cry out in pain. She had no idea if the blue window in front of her was real or not. She stretched out her right hand, extending her index finger, and poked at the screen. “Ouch!”

Desaray quickly pulled her finger back. She felt as if it had been pricked by something. She looked at the tip of her finger to see a small bubble of blood. Her attention was only on her finger for a few seconds when she suddenly saw text appearing in the blue window….

[System Online….]
[System Now Undergoing DNA Scan….]
[Scanning…..]

[Scanning Complete….]
[First Stage Evolution Will Now Commence…..]

“Huh? Evolution!? Whaaaaaahhhh!!!!!!!” Desaray let out a blood curdling scream of pain as she felt her entire body being ripped to shreds.

Becky, who was still watching from the corner, was amazed by how her best friend killed the monster, but when she heard Desaray suddenly cry out in pain, she knew she could no longer just stand there watching. She did not even hesitate to run over to her side. “Desa!!!”
