Hearing Lexy's words made Megalim feel warm inside. Lexy had shown her a kindness she had never had before. She took another sip of tea before placing the cup down and cleared her throat as she began her story. "Then I will begin..."

"It all started when I was five…. Before then, you could say I was a normal little girl. I was raised by a mother and father who seemed to love me, but one day, my mother took me out when my father was not home…  "

"Mommy, why are we here?" The little girl asked as she looked up at her mother, who did not even turn to look at her. She reached up to pull on her mother's sleeve to get her attention, but instead of having her mother turn and look at her with a smile, she felt her mother pull hard on her sleeve, causing the little girl to fall to the ground.

"Becky, wait here for a moment." The little girl, Becky's mother, said coldly before turning and walking away. Becky looked at her mother disappearing in the crowd, confused as to what was going on. She had no idea where she was. She only knew that there were many cars and stores with people coming and going.

Tears filled her eyes as she decided to do as her mother told her and sat down. She pulled her knees up to her chin and stared into the direction that her mother left in. The people passing by only stole glances at her but nothing more than that. Becky had no idea how much time passed by as she sat there waiting. She only knew that the once bright sky was now turning dark. It was then that an old woman knelt down in front of her.

"Honey, where are your parents?" The old woman asked. She felt something was amiss with a young girl huddled up against a building by herself on the side of the road.

Becky looked at the old woman, unsure if she should answer her or not, but with how long she had been sitting there, she wanted to know where her mommy went. "Mommy said she would be right back but..." Her tears began to flood out more. She was no longer able to speak.

But her words were all the old woman needed to know. Before Becky could grasp what was going on, people in uniforms picked her up and took her to the hospital, where she was given a check up. After that, she found herself in a building where other kids lived.

The days passed, and Becky sat in the corner looking out the window. Anytime she saw someone who resembled her mother, she jumped up to go greet her only to find it to be the wrong person. At first, things were fine, and she was fed three meals a day, but after a few months, new people showed up, and under the care of these new people, if she did anything that annoyed them, she would be hit with a stick. It was not just her either, but the other kids were also hit with sticks.

For days after that, Becky never went a day without a bruise on her body…. "I can remember some nights curling up into a ball and crying my eyes out repeating the same words over and over silently. 'Mommy, I'm sorry, I will behave. Come back and get Becky.' That was just the start of it all..." Megalim wiped her eyes as she tried to force a smile.

Lexy got up from her seat and walked over and sat down next to Megalim, and hugged her. She pulled her close and held her hand. She knew right now Megalim needed a hug more than anything else. Megalim took a deep breath before slowly letting it out as she continued: "After that, things got worse..."

As the years went on, Becky was enrolled in school. But because of all the beatings she got at the orphanage, she ended up being closed off from others. At school, she was quiet and stayed away from the other kids, afraid if she made a single sound, she would end up being beat.  This all stemmed from the older kids taking out their anger from being hit by the staff out on the ones younger than them. While the teachers may have thought that Becky was just a good quiet child, the kids found her to be creepy. This was when the bullying began.

She had days where her stuff would be tossed all over the room, or she would have things thrown at her. Kids at that age were impressionable, so when the so called cool kids began doing it, everyone began doing it. When with a class of thirty students, it was not something a little girl like Becky could handle.

Sadly she had no parents to back her up. And if she tried to complain about it to the caretakers, they would beat her for bothering them. This caused Becky to become even more of an introvert. She could only deal with it all on her own.

As the years went on, she had been beaten up many times. When she was not in school or doing as she was told at the orphanage, she would do nothing but study. She thought that maybe if she could go to college and escape it, all things would change. When she finally turned eighteen and was able to free herself from the torment of the orphanage, she was accepted to college on a scholarship. She had worked hard for this scholarship and even got a single room with meals included due to her special situation.  On top of the monthly government allowance, she was able to live much better than the orphanage, but… The way people treated her did not change. The other people in the college would use her as an outlet. Even if they did not hit her physically, they would call her many nasty names.

Seeing how things were not changing no matter what, Becky began to wonder about her own life. Why was she born? Why must she go through all these things…
