“Everyone okay!?” Becky asked as she looked around. The building they were in had lost all the upper floors. Even the apartment they were in was almost completely gone. They were lucky, and the room that Mike was recuperating in was actually quite sturdy, and even when the wave of light passed over them, it did not break apart the entire wall blocking them from being consumed.

“I am fine!” Yu was the next to call out. She looked down at Mike, who was staring back up at her in surprise. Yu had thrown herself on top of him to protect him from any fallen debris. 

He watched as blood trickled down from her head and yelled out: “How are you fine!? You are bleeding!”

“What!?” Becky ran over, and sure enough, there was a big gash on the top of her head. “Yu, come here! We need to bandage this up!” 

Becky did not waste time as she ripped up the sheet Mike was using, pulled Yu over, and began wrapping it around her head to try to stop the bleeding. “How is your hp?”

“Still good, I guess. 25 of 35 health at the moment.” Yu replied. She was starting to feel a little dizzy. 

“Don’t move around too much. In fact, lay down next to Mike. Mike, take care of her. I will check on Jake.” Becky finished tightening the makeshift bandage around Yu’s head and pushed her to the other side of Mike. Mike blushed but pulled the blankets down for Yu to get in. Yu hesitated for a second, but under Becky’s stern stare, she did as she was told and laid down next to Mike.

“Just rest up, and thank you.” Mike felt a little embarrassed. At first, it was Desaray who was protecting him, and now Yu was shielding him from harm. He was feeling his manliness was slowly starting to disappear. 

“There is no need for thanks. I did it because I wanted to.” Yu replied. Becky, who was about to hop off the bed, almost burst out laughing at the corny couple. But she was happy the two were getting along so well.

She looked around to see Jake huddled in the corner, rocking back and forth while hugging his knees, and sighed. She reluctantly walked over to him and asked: “You going to make it?”

“We are going to die. We are going to die. We are going to die.” Jake was only chanting these five words over and over, which was starting to annoy Becky. 

Without any hesitation, she reached out and slapped him across the face! “Get a hold of yourself! Do you think you are the only one who is frightened right now!?” 

Becky just couldn’t stand it. The entire time he had been acting as if he was the only one in danger. She did not understand what was going on in his head, that made him think he was the only one who was not scared about their current situation. Yes, they were dealing with it better, but his acting this way was not helping everyone else.

Jake woke up from his trance and looked at Becky. His eyes were still full of fright, but at the same time, he looked mad. His rage seemed to take over as he yelled out: “What am I supposed to do then!? Look at our situation!? We almost all died just now, and yet here you are, acting like nothing happened!”

Becky was not going to stand there and take any crap from Jake anymore. She had been sick of him since he was unwilling to check on Desaray. “What is the matter with you!? Do you really think I am not just as scared as you are!? I have no idea how my family is doing. None of us do! I do not need to stay here and look after you! I am only here protecting you because Desa asked me to! If it were not for her, you would probably have become monster food by now! But all you do is complain. Complain! COMPLAIN! Stop standing on your high horse thinking you are some damn prince! You are not the only one here who wishes for this all to end. You are not the only one here who wants to go home! You are not the only one here who wants to go back to their family. But we are still alive. We are living because we followed Desa, who from the start had only wanted to protect us, even you, who would not even go look to find out if she was alright after she stayed behind to protect Mike!”

“Where the hell is she now!? She has already abandoned us! She is long….”

*Slap!*

Jake was sent flying. Becky had slapped him hard with all her strength. She had jumped up in the air and used the open side of her claws to smack Jake in the face. He flew through the air and crashed into the closet door, breaking it off its hinges. She stormed over to him and grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt, and looked at him with eyes filled with hate. “Say one more word, and I will treat you like a goblin. Desa would never abandon us. I can guarantee that she is probably on her way here now. Do you think we are the only ones who got caught up in that blast or whatever it was!? Look at the sky! It’s covered in gray clouds and light out when it should be dark out. Our world has already gone to shit but even so! Desa would never abandon her friends. Even a piece of crap like you!” 

Becky pushed Jake into the broken door before snorting and walking a few steps before stopping once more, wiping her tear-filled eyes, and looking back at him. “Say that ever again, and I will be sure to tear your throat out.” Becky’s own dragon instincts were starting to take over. Her anger had already been clouded by her new race. At this time, she did not see Jake as a human being but as an insect that she could squash at any time.
