Three days passed, and Desaray and her group had built up a small camp that had rubble surrounding it, making a moon-shaped wall that connected to a huge pile of debris as a barrier for the back side of the camp that had a large overhang. The overhang gave them protection from the weather if there were to be any weather from this point on.

The camp area was only around two thousand square feet and gave them enough space so that they were not clustered together. They did not have any tents or anything like that, but they did have blankets and pillows to give them some comfort while they slept.

On the first night, everyone besides Ricky slept until noon the next day. And after being scolded by his daughter, Ricky finally took a nap for a few hours. He, too, was very tired after all that had happened and instantly fell asleep.

One thing they did realize was that the food went in, but it did not seem to come out after their evolution. They still seemed to need food to live, but for some reason, it did not cycle through their body but more like it was completely turned into energy, and nothing was wasted. This, of course, was a big plus to the three girls since they would not need to do their business out in public. While they were now monsters, it did not mean that they were willing to just stop by a bush and do their duty, literally.

The sky had finally cleared up. The clouds that once filled the sky gave way to blue skies on the second day after what Desaray called the Grand Fall, the day the sky fell. With their new appraisal skill, they had found a few edible plants as well as some which were marked as crafting items which Desaray had everyone collect just in case.

But on this night, the night of the third day, Desaray was sitting on top of the wall made of debris, looking up at the stars. Her short legs were swaying back and forth while her tail flipped up and down every so often. She had grown quite used to her new body and did not find anything strange about it anymore. She let out a sigh as she looked up at the moon. The same moon she had seen many times since she was young. “I wonder what will happen in the future.”

“Sighing at your age is not good.” Ricky’s voice came from behind her.

“Dad?” Desaray turned and curled up her scaly lips. She looked at her father and felt quite happy that he was still alive.

Ricky jumped up on the wall and sat next to her, and placed his big palm on her head. “You are still young. Although things have changed, you do not need to take on so much responsibility. You have kept them alive all this time, have you not?”

Desaray nodded as she bumped her head up and down so her father would pat it. She found head pats in her current form to be very nice. “But even still…. I feel that our lives are far from being able to be carefree anymore. While I am happy we have all lived to this point, we still have a lot of work ahead of us. You know those who stayed humans will probably never accept us as we are. Each one of us needs to level up to level twenty and evolve once more. And hopefully, by doing so, we will be able to take on a humanoid form of some kind. While I do think this form is quite cute, I do not want to stay like this forever. Of course, if I am forced to be in a dragon form all the time, then there is nothing I can do about it. I mean, it would be cool to have a huge dragon form.”

“I never thought of that. But yeah, I guess you are right. Humans that did not evolve into monsters will probably see us as just that, monsters. It might take a while to get them to wake up and realize we are still the same, just different looking. But then again, humans have always had a history of looking down on things that were different from them.” Ricky sighed.

He thought back to the human couple with the kid and realized he had already made enemies. But they had to stand their ground. He felt bad, but at the same time, he knew it was something that had to be done. With an unknown future, having to think for himself and his family was the most important at this time.

As the night settled in, Desaray continued her stargazing while her father went to rest. With no lights to pollute the skies, the Milky Way filled her eyes. She couldn’t help but feel that seeing such a sight with her own eyes and not on the computer or tv was a very surreal sight. Sadly this quiet time did not last long.

The ground suddenly began shaking violently. This shaking was followed by a loud roar as if some huge monster had decided to wake up. As Desaray braced herself on the wall she was on, she turned to look at her father and her friends, who were about fifty feet away, trying to stand up but kept falling over. “Dad!”

“Desa!” Ricky was panicking. The ground was shaking so badly that every time he got his footing, he fell over.

A loud rumbling sound began to fill the air. Desaray held on to the thick cement block she was sitting on and watched in horror as the ground in front of her began to break apart and began crumbling towards her. “What!?”

Desaray had no choice but to flap her small wings and get on all fours. She quickly jumped off the wall they had built and began to run as fast as she could while flapping her wings to try to keep herself upright. Her wings could not do much, but they did help with balance. Behind her, all she could see was the ground falling apart, crumbling away and creating a large chasm that was quickly widening.
