Ricky cleaned up and put on a pair of sweatpants since his normal jeans no longer fit his thickened legs. Although they still rose up halfway past his calf. He walked out of his bedroom and walked into the dining area to see his daughter setting up dishes to the best of her ability. He could hear her grumbling about being too short, which made him chuckle. “I am glad you are alive.”

“Mm…” Desaray nodded with her head lowered. “I am glad you are okay as well… Dad…. Thank you for staying alive and not disappearing.”

Ricky eyes began to water up. He had to admit his weak point was his little girl. “As a man and a father, I could not leave my little girl alone. Although it seems you did a hell of a job out there. So what race are you?”

“Hehe!” Desaray scaly lips curled up as she did a strange pose and said: “An ice dragon!”

“Oh! To think you got to become the thing you love the most, while I got to become some kind of oni thing. But I have to say I have become quite strong. I leveled up to two already.” Ricky felt proud of himself as he stuck his hands on his hips and made a proud pose.

“You are slacking! I, your daughter, am level 4 already!” Desaray took the wind out of Ricky’s sails, making him lower his head in shame.

“What the hell did you kill to level up so fast? No better yet, just start from the beginning. Tell me everything.” Ricky wanted to know what his daughter had been through this entire time. In such a short time, so many things had happened already.

Desaray explained everything that had happened and how Becky and the others were waiting at an apartment building across from the terrace. Then Ricky told her how things went for him since he had left for work and found things off. He even had to jog to work because of traffic.

“It seems the incidents started near your school and then spread out from there. It is good that you decided to turn around, or you might have run into something stronger before you could even do anything. But to see two people turn into golden yellow balls of light in front of me was just strange, and fear began to well up inside me. I ran to the apartment hoping you had returned but ran into a hairy humanoid dog thing that had a pickaxe. It attacked me on sight, so I ended up bashing the crap out of it.” Ricky replied.  “You have no idea how much my heart dropped when I did not see you at the house. I left the note and ran out of the house, hoping to find you. I am so glad you are alive.”

“Hehe. I was so worried you would not recognize me, maybe even attack me, but it seemed I worried for nothing. But I think I worried most about you either dying or disappearing like so many have. Dad, do you have any idea what is hap….” Desaray’s words got caught in her throat when she felt the ground begin to shake violently. The dark skies outside started to turn bright once again, causing both of them to jump up out of their seats and run to their windows.

In another part of the city, Becky, Mike, Jake, and Yu all took refuge in Mike’s room, with Yu guarding the window and Becky guarding the door. “What is happening!? What is going on!?”

Jake’s frantic cries began to aggravate Becky as she turned and yelled out: “If you do not shut up, I will toss you outside so you can get a front-row seat!”

Jake quickly shut up. He did not dare to anger Becky because he felt that she would really do it. Becky snorted and slowly backed towards the window, and peeked outside. “The sky… It’s a golden yellow…..”

The ground shook, and those in hiding, new evolutions and humans alike, all turned to look at the sky. It looked like the sky was the head of a faucet, and a water droplet had started forming. It bowed down before starting to pull from its source. For those staring at the sky, they could clearly see what seemed to be liquid made of light within. The droplet really began to take shape until, finally, it could no longer be held in place, and it fell….

There was no sound. All those who were watching held their breaths. Even the monsters were not making a sound. All eyes were on the sky and the massive water droplet that was falling from the upper atmosphere. It hit the taller buildings breaking them open and shattering the first few floors in the process, causing the tops of these buildings to snap off like a toothpick between a thumb and forefinger. If there were people alive in those buildings, they had little chance of survival.

Ricky looked at the massive rushing liquid light, and his mind spun. He did not even need to think before grabbing Desaray into his arms and running towards the bathroom that was closest to the hallway and jumping into the tub, pulling the shower curtain on top of them, and holding his breath. He had not said a word and was only waiting for the impact of the wave that was spreading throughout the city.

Desaray was also quiet. She could only pray that they could make it out to this alive. She had no time to even think about Becky and the others since she did not know if even she would survive this.

The building the two were in started to shake violently, and then a loud crunching sound followed by an explosion as the entire floor seemed to shift and began turning sideways. The wave of light swept over the two, causing the bathtub Desaray and Ricky was in to be pulled from the floor itself and swept away in the wave of light as if an ocean wave had come crashing into their home. Desaray could only hear the sound of rushing air and screams around them as she felt her father pressing her down, holding her in place. She hugged his body to make it easier for him, afraid he would sacrifice himself for her.

Ricky could only hold on and keep his head down while gripping the sides of the bathtub. His fingers hurt since something had already smashed into them, but he did not care. He only wanted to protect the one who was most important in his life. The only reason he still had to keep living even though this world was turning to shit. And he would be damned if he would allow some strange as wave of light to do any harm to his family.

His determination is touching. I think many people would be able to relate easily. But wtf with the light-drop-thingy. That's just weird.
